The history of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus gets a new update from historian Tom Burtch with a 48-minute collection of video and audio clips, news clipping and poster montages, and commentary.
The video covers the chorus' beginnings on the steps of San Francisco's City Hall following the assassination of Sup. Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone, to their concerts tours, numerous losses to AIDS, and the acclaimed 2019 documentary film, "Gay Chorus Deep South."
Burtch is also known for creating the popular and essential Obituaries Project, an online searchable database of Bay Area Reporter obituaries.
He's updated his earlier SFGMC timeline with new material from the music group's expanding accomplishments, up to the recent acquisition of its Valencia Street building, the Chan National Queer Arts Center, and the touching concert with outgoing Artistic Director Dr. Tim Seelig.
